Abstract

Introduction: In the elder population, the sleep disorders are one of the biggest geriatric syndromes with more prevalency, which increases with the aging. Published studies describe that exists a high prevalency of poor quality of sleep which can be related to a bad sleep hygiene
Objetive: To describe the quality and the hygiene of sleep in patients of the “Elderly Daycare Center Essalud” in the year 2015.
Materials and Methods: Observational study, descriptive and transversal with a population of 165 elder patients that assist to the “Elderly Daycare Center” during the months
of july to december of 2015. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Colombian validation and the Sleep Hygiene Index modified validated in Peru was used.
Results: The median of the patients age was 72, the 74,5% of the assistence was femenine. 72,7% (120 people) of the assistent to the Elderly Daycare Center
has bad sleep hygiene, 77,6% (128 people) have bad sleep quality. 57% of the participants with bad sleep quality have also bad sleep hygiene. 43.6% of the participants had Arterial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus 20% and Osteoarthritis 26.7%, polymedication existed in the 33% of the patients
Conclusions: Elder people of the Elderly Daycare Center from Chiclayo have a high frequency of poor sleep quality and bad sleep hygiene.
